Our proudest resource is our team of docents, some of them Encinitas natives, who use our collection and their own recollections to guide visitors through the City’s history and our Schoolhouse, which contains curated exhibits as well as a large collection of in-house research papers, photos, magazines, newspapers, books, and artifacts.
If you’re looking for unique gifts, come peruse our merchandise, priced for family budgets. We stock branded items including popular T-shirts and tote bags, playing cards featuring photos of old Encinitas, holiday ornaments, postcards, DVD’s, Heritage Tree T-shirts, old photos and artwork featuring Encinitas landmarks.
Among Encinitas’ most recognizable landmarks, the 1883 Schoolhouse is a unique location for hosting private and public events. The facility includes 5G wi-fi, meeting tables, large rolling TV screen, pull-down film screen, air conditioning and heating, and blackout roller window shades. Outside there is a restroom and a thriving flower and plant garden with seating in a back patio.
For young children, the north end of the Schoolhouse is a fully-appointed one-room school with chalkboard, penmanship guides, teacher’s desk, schooldesks and chairs ca 1890 with their own slateboards and chalk, a teaching collection of books that would have been apt and available to students 1883-1927, classic school readers, and a wooden paddle signed by students who once required heftier instruction! Third-grade Encinitas students make annual field trips to receive lessons at our Schoolhouse.
